Min Vs. Max

"Try your best to focus on
what's happening at this exact moment.
Keep your regrets minimal
and your hopes maximal.
Life without mistakes would be boring."

Love Yourself First!

Your life is a journey of learning to love yourself first and then extending that love to others in every encounter.
-Oprah, 2001

Why is it so hard to just LOVE YOURSELF but so easy to love others!?  There are times I really love myself and trust that what I'm doing is the right thing...but there are other days when I feel grumpy, bloated and ungrateful.  The periods don't last long but it's the amount of time spent feeling sorry for myself that I get the most irritated about.

It's like, "Okay, okay, I get it self.  At this moment you want to have a 'woe is me' party and this isn't working out and you are going to have to wait a little bit longer for that to happen, blah blah blah."  I truly believe that the quicker you can snap yourself out of those moments, the more infrequent they become.  If it helps: write in a gratitude journal, keep a book of inspirational quotes on hand, talk to friends on the phone, go do something that you know will make you feel better...and in time, you will find the way back to the home plate of loving yourself.

4 Ways to Get Inspired!

1. Try a new class at the gym! I just tried SPIN and let me tell you, that is no joke.  Hats off to all you cyclists!
2. Read a book for fun! I recently finished the Amanda Beard memoir.  What a tough cookie!
3. Plan a trip! Wanting/needing some weekend girlfriend time, I'm headed to Cali!
4. Re-vamp your diet! After reading about GMO's I'm on a 1 ingredient per food item plan.

Primary Foods

I am studying to be a holistic health & wellness coach and wanted to share a beautiful statement found in the third fundamental class focusing on primary foods: "A big part of Integrative Nutrition is looking beyond what you put into your mouth, but rather looking at what nourishes your heart and soul. Think about the people in your life. Take out a piece of paper and write down the people who make you laugh, cry, think, happy and angry. Are there more people on that list who make you feel good about yourself than bad? How can you spend more time with those family and friends who make you feel full of life? Just as you might crowd out chemicalized, artificial junk food you can crowd out those relationships that impact you negatively."

Sweet Potato, Happy Tummy.

This is what I've been eating for dinner.
EVERY. NIGHT.

MIX THIS 'ISH UP:
  • Sweet Potato (make sure it's organic)
  • Cloves of garlic
  • Diced onion
  • Kale (3-4 handfuls)
  • Siracha
  • Olive oil (enough to cover bottom of pan)
  • Daiya vegan cheddar cheese (just a little)
  • Avocado

SPICES USED:
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Cinnamon
  • Pepper, Salt
  • Parsley
  • Mrs. Dash salt free spice

So I microwave the sweet potato for 2-3 minutes.  Turn it over and microwave for 1 minute.  While the potato is in the microwave I mix everything together in the pan so it starts to cook.  Then I cut the sweet potato up, put it in the pan, let it cook.

It cooks for however long, I think 5/7 minutes.  Spread it over some kale and avocado and enjoy every last bite!

Adjust the spices to YOUR liking!
