Decisions, Decisions!

When I am repeatedly bombarded with trip options, career advancement options, ways to build a better life, a better future, a quick way to grow your retirement, all I can do is...nothing.  Too many options make me back away from everything.

I imagine a hand waving at me with every different option and when I start to back away, the waving gets quicker and bigger, until I shut my computer and there is silence.  No one telling me to do something, no articles to read about how to be a good vinyasa yoga instructor and the list goes on.

On days like today when all I want to do is watch Top Chef & Total Divas and have lunch made of chips, hummus and salsa, I refuse to be sucked in.  There are days when I am not so dismissive and those are the days where I find myself starting with boundless amounts of energy, until I open my computer and get sucked in to "doing online workouts + how to build a better butt."

Do yourself a favor, or just me and do nothing every once in a while.  And if doing nothing is too much too handle (funny, the irony), than write.  Get out those feelings, write or better yet, read.  Read about something, because reading is like doing nothing, but better because you get to go somewhere, but you can still wear a robe and eat chips & salsa.

The options are endless, but some days you have to end the options and just stick with a "do nothing day."  Recharge the batteries.  And you'll thank yourself on Monday.

Do you follow the Trends?

I am not a trend follower.  I've never bought anything from lululemon.  I never know what the "cool shoes" are or the latest trend for hair & nails.  But it's because I could care less.  I am in the other breed of what is the latest vitamin or what new superfood should be included into my diet.  How much water should I be drinking?  What is the best way to workout and get the best bang for your buck?  What kind of health insurance should I sign up for?  Should I see an Ayurvedic Health Coach or go to an Integrative Clinic?

I highlight my hair, I put on makeup with my fingertips and I wear basically the same thing every week.  I use coconut oil to take off my makeup and offer health tips to anyone who will listen, (sorry family).

Are you a trend follower?  Why?  They never last and you have to keep changing yourself.  That's what I don't understand.  The exhaustion behind staying up with the latest and greatest.  Or maybe I'm just lazy and appreciate my easy, comfy clothes.

I remember having black hair and going tanning to look "exotic."  What the hell?  But you know what?  It's because I was finding myself.  So are trends all about finding yourself?  I don't know.

Like my sister's boyfriend recently pointed out as we looked at a picture from 30 years ago.

"That will be cool again pretty soon.  Then it will go away and be back 30 years and be cool again."

Confessions from a Yoga Teacher

"It's only one hour.  You can do it.  Come on.  It's only your second class of the day, what's the big deal?  Put on your yoga clothes, drink some water, maybe brush your teeth and put some music on.  Get going!"

It's gray outside.  It's been raining all day and my energy is zapped.  I've been lying in bed since 11am and it is now 3pm.  What was I doing?  I know a ton of health coaches who go through this dark mode...that I am in right now.

I don't have a master's degree in nutrition/exercise science, I am a Certified Health Coach + Yoga Instructor looking for other ways to jazz up my life, the programs I offer and my work.  But I am stuck.  I am stuck in the land of too much opportunity.  Too many different roads.  Which one am I supposed to take?  I decide none, so I stay in the land of stuck.

Not motivated to teach.  Tired.  Energy low.  Exhausted.  Hungry.  But not hungry, just bored with routine.  Think about finishing the book I started writing.  That's as far as that gets.  Eat some oatmeal with fruit, think about offering a cooking class.  Convince myself I don't know enough or no one will like how it tastes.

Start to take nice, deep breaths in, wishing I could GO to a yoga class and just lay on the mat.  Listen to the instructor's voice and music and tell her I will not be moving, just laying.  Hope she's okay with it.  She smiles.  Snap out of it!

53 minutes until class starts.  NO!!!  It's too late to get a sub and if I dig deep, I'm excited to teach.  Just tired.  I love my class & people that come.  How can I connect to them better?  How can I teach the best damn yoga class they've ever taken?  I hope my low energy doesn't affect them.  Maybe they are low too.  The ugly weather.

50 minutes until class.

Visualize the beginning, middle & end.  I can do it.  I will bring the sunshine to my class!  One step at a time.  I will share this thought with the men & women that come tonight.
